Three people were killed in Fairfield early Wednesday after crashing during a police pursuit related to a carjacking that took place in Vallejo on Tuesday.
The identities of the victims were not released by the Solano County Coroner’s Office.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the events occurred around 12:35 a.m. when officers attempted an enforcement stop on a white Hyundai traveling east on Interstate 80 east of American Canyon Road.
The vehicle had been reported stolen during a carjacking in Vallejo the previous day.
The driver refused to stop, officials said, and a chase ensued. The driver was reportedly speeding as the Suisun Valley Road exit was taken and crashed.
Because the occupants were not wearing seat belts, all three occupants were thrown from the vehicle and killed, the CHP said.
The Solano County Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the CHP Golden Gate Division Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team, is conducting a fatality investigation in accordance with Solano County Protocol.
