Sunnyvale couple arrested after police find cache of gun, including a grenade launcher, inside home shared with children

SUNNYVALE – A Sunnyvale couple were arrested on Wednesday after police discovered a massive amount of firearms, suspected drugs and stolen vehicles at their property on Waverly Street.

Police say the man had equipment to manufacture weapons and money at the house, where detectives found rifles, shotguns, body armor, thousands of rounds of ammunition and a grenade launcher during the search.

The man and his wife are also charged with child endangerment, as the couple’s children were present when police issued a search warrant Wednesday, according to Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Capt. The children have since been placed with the Santa Clara Department of Family and Child Services.

The search warrant was issued after months of investigation and was based on information that the man had numerous weapons and stolen vehicles on the property. The pair were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and face not only child endangerment charges, but also gun and vehicle code violations. It is unclear whether the couple would be reunited with their children if they were released on bail.
