The 15th annual RoboGames 2023 competition kicked off Thursday at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton for the first time since 2019.

After a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the four-day event is bouncing off thousands of participants and more than 500 robots.

This year’s participating countries are Brazil, Canada, China, Ecuador, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, UK, US and Ukraine.

RoboGames, the world’s largest robot competition, hosted its 16th annual international event presented by Visit Tri-Valley. The family-friendly celebration of all things robotics featured hundreds of robots from around the world competing in more than 40 robot events, including a 250-pound robot battle, humanoid kung fu, soccer and 11 events especially for kids, along with demonstrations by leading designers and engineers in the robotics industry.

RoboGames was founded in 2004 by David Calkins as the ROBOlympics.

“From year to year, it is inspiring to witness the increasing global impact of RoboGames,” said Calkins. “We are very excited to enter the 16th year of this truly unique event.”
