Mike Myers Recalls Funny Way Buckingham Palace Honored Austin Powers

Mike Myers remembers the fun way Buckingham Palace guards honored Austin Powers when he visited the royal residence. Released in 1997, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery is one of Myers’ most well-known films, alongside other hits such as Wayne’s world and Shrek. The film was a thinly veiled parody of the James Bond franchise, mocks many of the tropes that have come to define the franchise, including his penchant for intricate villain plots and love interests with overtly sexual names. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery Myers is famous for playing multiple roles, including that of Dr. Evil, the nemesis of Powers.

The first Austin Powers film received mostly positive reviews and was a financial success, and a sequel, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Fucked Me used to be released in 1999. Despite mixed reviews, the film earned over $312 million at the box office, leading to the release of Austin Powers in Goldmember in 2002. Although Myers is Canadian, Powers is British through and through. This Britishness is best showcased during the opening scene in the first Austin Powers movie when Powers dances through the streets of 1960s London.

“A few years ago a friend of mine arranged for Steve [Higgins] and I to watch the Changing of the Guard from the gates of Buckingham Palace. We passed a thorough background check and all these things. My parents are from Liverpool, England, so it’s a huge deal. And we were let in and then the band comes out and they play that, you know? [imitates regal music], and I’m like, ‘Oh, this is so great.’ And then they broke into the Austin Powers theme and started playing Soul Bossa Nova. And I just couldn’t believe it. One of the guards walked by with a flag and they weren’t allowed to talk. He says, “Oh, I bet you’ve heard this song before, Mr. Myers.”

Will Mike Myers return for Austin Powers 4?

Although it has now been 20 years since the release of Austin Powers in Goldmemberdemand from fans for Austin Powers 4 remains high. Myers has been asked several times if a fourth film is in the works and his answers have always been restrained, neither confirming nor denying whether such a film is indeed in the works. While there’s nothing concrete yet, Myers’ evasive responses suggest that behind the scenes of the project, the mill is spinning, such as a script in the works, but he’s just not jumping out of it to get his fans excited. for something that doesn’t work. don’t have a green light yet.

It is certainly possible that Austin Powers 4 will eventually happen, but it is questionable whether a fourth film would be good for the franchise. Despite Austin Powers in Goldmember earning mixed reviews, the trilogy as a whole is still very well regarded by fans and Austin Powers 4 has the potential to tarnish that legacy, especially since many of the jokes in the original movies wouldn’t be acceptable today. It remains to be seen if Myers will return for another Austin Powers film, but its Buckingham Palace story certainly suggests that the love for the franchise and its character lives on even in the highest echelons of British society.
