Michael Conforto homer completes Giants’ comeback over Royals

SAN FRANCISCO — A single would have been enough, but Michael Conforto went deep anyway.

In the greatest moment of his young Giants career, Conforto hit a two-run homer to break a tie in the eighth inning and lead his team to a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals at Oracle Park on Sunday afternoon .

Conforto got a hanging breaking ball over the center of the plate from Royals left-hander Ryan Yarbrough and hurled it 400 yards over the right field wall.

Signed to a two-year, $36 million deal this offseason and asked to hit in the middle of the Giants order, Conforto has not disappointed. His home run on Sunday was his third of the year with 6 RBI’s in his first nine games.

The Giants trailed all game until eighth, when speedy outfielder Bryce Johnson came on board with a single, then scored all the way from first base on a liner down the third baseline, just below the tag for the game to home plate slid. – draw.

Conforto stepped forward next and hit the two-run blast.

Tyler Rogers tied for a scoreless ninth as the Giants avoided a three-game sweep to the Royals to move to 4-5 this year.

Anthony DeSclafani threw 6 1/3 innings with one run and struckout seven.
