OAKLAND — Firefighters were at work early Friday to put out a blaze at a homeless camp that authorities said forced them to close off a highway ramp.
The fire was in the 27th Street area on the ramp to State Highway 24 and eastbound Interstate 80, according to the Oakland Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.
Crews responded to it around 6:20 a.m., according to dispatchers.
The smoke from the fire could be seen from the two highways.
It was not clear how big the fire was and how long it would take to extinguish it. There was no information on whether anyone was injured.
