Warning: Major Halloween spoilers end below!Halloween ends Doubles up on Michael Myers’ threat by using Corey Cunningham as the masked killer’s protege. In a surprising twist that had been teased since the release of the first trailer for Halloween endsMichael takes a back seat this time when Corey steps into his shoes and four years later starts another murderous rampage across Haddonfield. Corey is first introduced as a timid man who is afraid of his peers after being involved in a tragic accident that resulted in the death of a young boy named Jeremy, whom he was babysitting. It’s clear from the start that the town of Haddonfield sees him as the new bogeyman.
The first half of Halloween endspossibly the last movie of the franchise, focuses on what life is like for Corey after the accident, completely exiled in the town he calls home. After being attacked by a group of high school students, Laurie comes to his rescue and takes him to the local hospital, where Allyson, now a nurse, stitches him up. The pair embark on a budding relationship, but it’s not enough to protect Corey from the evil townspeople who still think he’s a murderer. Allyson then takes Corey to a Halloween party, but he leaves early after he bumps into Jeremy’s mom and is attacked on his way home by the same group of high school students, who push him off a bridge. Michael Myers then finds and drags Corey into the sewers, but instead kills him; the pair form an unusual bond that slowly sees Corey become another version of Michael, hungry for revenge.
Why Michael Myers originally let Corey live on Halloween
While Halloween ends showing Michael initially attacks Corey by strangling him, he has a change of heart that is sure to divide the fan base and decides to let Corey go. During Halloween ends, there are many references to eyes. When Michael looked into Corey’s eyes, it was like seeing everything he’d been through. This understanding helps Michael develop a twisted kinship with Corey, possibly causing him to see himself. However, Michael’s reasoning for letting Corey live is mostly unexplained, with Halloween ends focusing more on Michael’s impact on Corey rather than the other way around.
Does Michael Myers Change Corey Evil Through a Psychic Connection?
In halloween kills, Michael Myers is described as the literal embodiment of evil itself. Therefore, it is very likely that staring at this pure evil reminded Corey of the evil he had been accused of, as well as acting as a mirror of his own evil nature. As Michael sees himself in Corey, Corey also sees himself in Michael, taking a drastic turn as he slowly begins to embody him. Whatever connection happened between the two, it’s possible that Michael pushed Corey toward evil, or helped promote something that was already there.
Was Corey Cunningham Always Bad?
A thematic element in Halloween ends is that not all evil is born, and sometimes it can be faked. In Corey Cunningham’s case, his evil was forged. After Laurie becomes suspicious of Corey, she approaches his mother. The latter is adamant that the town of Haddonfield turned her son into a monster because she needed someone to blame after Michael Myers disappeared. Jeremy’s father also shares that Corey was always a great boy, and how he wanted to prove his wife wrong and show that he could be forgiven for his son’s untimely death.
However, Jeremy’s father later says that when he saw Corey walking through the streets, he no longer recognized him, indicating that he was now on a dark path. This leads Laurie to explain to Corey that there are two kinds of evil, one that consumes everything and destroys everything and another that is inside everyone. While Corey, like most people according to Laurie’s theory, always had the potential to be bad, it was Haddonfield who really took it out of him. General, Halloween ends is a critique of society’s habit of always blaming someone, and questions how responsible society is in creating monsters like Corey Cunningham.
Why Corey Wants To Be The Next Michael Myers
There are several reasons why Corey would like to be the next Michael Myers Halloween ends. But perhaps most fittingly, Corey wanted the power to instill fear in the residents of Haddonfield in the same way Michael Myers had done years before. The townspeople of Haddonfield were so convinced that Corey was a psychopath that he eventually became the monster they portrayed him. After living in fear for years, Corey used Michael Myers to regain his power and become everything he once swore he wasn’t.
Why Michael Myers Had To Kill Corey (Forever)
After Corey framed Laurie for his murder by stabbing himself in the neck, Michael Myers arrives at Laurie’s house to chase Corey after attacking him and stealing his mask in the sewer. Michael then breaks Corey’s neck, ends his frenzy and kills him for good. This death reminded the public that Corey is simply a byproduct of Michael’s evil. It also highlights the fact that Corey is just an ordinary man in a mask, something he had called Michael when he was previously in… Halloween endsemphasizing that he is not an unstoppable force to be reckoned with, nor mightier than the man who essentially created him.
