Anne Hathaway is vehemently against a 2006 hit comedy sequel, The devil wears Pradawho blatantly say the sequel isn’t going to happen. The devil wears Prada was incredibly successful mainly because of the big names associated with it, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, as well as the incredible performances the actors gave. The film was also nominated for two Oscars, one for Streep for Best Actress in a Leading Role and one for the film’s costume design. Fans of all ages and demographics took to the theaters to see it, praising it for its comical yet accurate portrayal of a stressful work environment.
In The devil wears PradaHathaway stars as Andrea Sachs, an aspiring journalist who takes on the position of one of the assistants to the incredibly critical fashion designer and difficult boss Miranda Priestly, played by Streep. Andrea struggles not to get sucked into the fashion world and the politics that come with it, while trying to maintain healthy relationships with her family, friends and boyfriend Nate. In the end, Andrea realizes she doesn’t like the person who made this job of her, so she quits and makes amends with those she’s hurt. The devil wears Prada is a reflection on the importance of not losing yourself in your career, and that resigning is a perfectly healthy option, which may not translate well for a sequel.
Despite the success of the original film, Anne Hathaway shared her blunt thoughts on why The Devil Wears Prada 2 won’t happen with Entertainment tonight. The star noted that the film already exists and that instead of holding out hopes for a sequel, audiences should rewatch the original. See Hathaway’s full commentary below:
There will be no sequel. It’s not going to happen. It’s like we can’t. It’s not going to happen. It exists. There are other movies. There are other movies to come. We can just watch it [The Devil Wears Prada] again.
Why A Devil Wears Prada Sequel Wouldn’t Work
The modern age of Hollywood movies is so closely tied to sequels and revivals that it makes sense that fans would almost expect a sequel to The devil wears Prada. However, according to Hathaway, there should be no sequel to this film as there is no plot to continue from the first film, with Andrea learning that the brutal world of fashion design is not for her and leaves Miranda after the latter commits Nigel’s betrayal. . trust and ruin a future career option for him. although a devil wears Prada sequel, the film adaptation ended on a much more limited note than the source material, leaving little room to pick up the story.
A sequel would either go back to the character development of the last film or try to recreate the same story with a new cast, something that is patently unoriginal and uninteresting compared to the first film. In addition, it would be difficult to produce The Devil Wears Prada 2 as Hathaway and Streep have seen their star profiles skyrocket, leaving their calendars full of projects they’ve invested in. If Hathaway and Streep aren’t interested in making a sequel, then the movie probably won’t live up to audience expectations, which makes Hathaway feel right the devil carries Prada will never get a sequel.
